Mobile positioning for traffic state acquisition
نویسندگان
چکیده
The topics presented in this paper regard the project “Data Optimisation for integrated Telematics” (Do-iT) granted by the German ministry of economics and technology. Within this project the current traffic state will be derived by use of network-based data from numerous mobile phones of anonymous drivers. With regard to traditional methods like local loop data and GPS-based floating car data (FCD) this method (floating phone data, FPD) will take advantage of the area-wide availability without additional infrastructure and costs. The Timing Advance (TA) value to the serving antenna and signal strength measurements to the serving antenna as well as the six neighbouring antennas are available in the GSM network. The TA value is used to determine the distance from the serving antenna to the mobile phone. From this a search area is generated. The position of the mobile phone is determined by use of the signal strengths which are matched to a signal strength map. These positions are referenced to the digital road network. Positioning is used to enable a reliable traffic prediction as base for modern traffic control and management. Within the paper a brief overview about the project is given. Main focus is on the positioning methods. Different approaches from least squares adjustment and Kalman filtering are presented and first results from data measured in the vicinity of Stuttgart are shown.

Real-Time Urban Traffic State Estimation with A-GPS Mobile Phones as Probes
This paper presents a microscopic traffic simulation-based method for urban traffic state estimation using Assisted Global Positioning System (A-GPS) mobile phones. In this approach, real-time location data are collected by A-GPS mobile phones to track vehicles traveling on urban roads. In addition, tracking data obtained from individual mobile probes are aggregated to provide estimations of av...

Enabling the positioning and tracking of mobile phones has emerged as a key facility of existing and future generation mobile communication systems. This feature provides opportunities for many value added location-based services and systems. For instance, mobile phones are increasingly employed in traffic information systems and present several advantages over traditional sensor-based traffic ...
متن کاملMethod of Video-Measurements of Traffic Flow Characteristics at a Road Junction
In the theory of traffic flows the main characteristics are: intensity, speed, and density. They make it possible to use hydrodynamic models. In connection with the development of modern highways and road networks, traffic flows behavior is becoming more and more complex and diverse. In particular, the B.Kerner studies have shown that the laminar solution of hydrodynamic models is poorly corre...
متن کامل3D Path Planning Algorithm for Mobile Anchor-Assisted Positioning in Wireless Sensor Networks
Positioning service is one of Wireless Sensor Networks’ (WSNs) fundamental services. The accurate position of the sensor nodes plays a vital role in many applications of WSNs. In this paper, a 3D positioning algorithm is being proposed, using mobile anchor node to assist sensor nodes in order to estimate their positions in a 3D geospatial environment. However, mobile anchor node’s 3D path optim...
